Dr. Ricardo S. Ochinang, DMD
General Dentist
Dr. Ricardo Somera Ochinang was born in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Birmingham, Alabama at the age of two. He attended John Carroll Catholic High School, Birmingham, Alabama and graduated with honors. He received his bachelor’s degree with a major in biology and minor in chemistry and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2000. Afterwards, he earned his dental degree from the University of Alabama School Of Dentistry in 2004.
Following the events of 9/11, Dr. Ochinang began to consider entering the military. Following graduation from dental school, Dr. Ochinang commissioned as a Captain in the United States Air Force in July 2004 and completed Commissioned Officer Training at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. He then accomplished a rigorous one year residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. Dr. Ochinang was then stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas where he completed the rest of his commitment with the Air Force until his separation in 2009 when he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service. In 2007, Dr. Ochinang deployed with a medical team from Goodfellow Air Force Base as the lone humanitarian dental provider to aid Peru earthquake victims, surgically treating over 150 patients.
Dr. Ochinang married the love of his life and San Angelo native Brandi Albarado at the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart. They first met while being stationed at Keesler Air Force Base, and after a period of geographic separation, the two reunited on St. Patrick’s Day in San Angelo. The two are happily married with three children, Kaleigh, Ramero, and Amarah. Their family are active members of the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart.
A strong supporter of organized dentistry, Dr. Ochinang is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, Texas Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, American Association of Oral and Systemic Health, Academy of Laser Dentistry, American Sleep and Breathing Academy, American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and San Angelo District Dental Society.
Consistently striving for dental excellence, Dr. Ochinang has accrued over 1000 hours of continuing education, attending a number of military and civilian dental courses. In 2017, he initiated an intensive one-year training program, the TexMAX Implant MaxiCourse, which is accredited by the prestigious American Academy of Implant Dentistry, furthering his education in implant surgery. Simultaneously, he is also completing a comprehensive min-residency with the Dawson Institute for Advanced Dental Studies gaining further mastery in disorders of the TMJ, worn dentitions, and unbalanced bites.
